How this program works: Once energy hits the electrical grid, there is no way of discerning where the energy came from. This program works by your electric company, East Central Energy, purchasing renewable energy credits to offset the amount of non-renewable energy consumed by your vehicle. Each electric company will have a percentage of their power that comes from renewable energy resources such as wind, solar or geothermal. Your electric company will know what that percentage is. For Example: Say 84% of the electricity from your electric company comes from green energy sources. Therefore 16% comes from non-renewable, or dirty energy sources. To find out how many renewable energy credits to purchase, your electric company will take the amount of energy that you use to fuel your electric vehicle, and multiply that by the percentage of non-renewable energy. Then purchase renewable energy credits for that amount.

For example: 65kWh x 0.16 = 10.4kWh non-renewable energy. In this example your electric company will purchase 10.4kWh of Renewable Energy Credits.
